The June Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Come and enjoy the unique opportunity to view St. George Island, the Gulf and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from atop the lighthouse.
The Sunset and Full Moon Climb begins at 8:30 p.m. and runs through 11:30 p.m. Fifteen (15) minute time slots are assigned for each group on a first-come, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be made. Upon arrival, you will purchase your climbing tickets in the Lighthouse Gift Shop, located in the Keeper’s House. Once you have received your ticket, you will walk over to the Lighthouse and meet with the Lighthouse Keeper to sign-up for your chosen 15-minute time slot. Up to 12 people are allowed in each 15-minute time slot.
The Lighthouse Gift Shop will open at 8:00 p.m., the day of the climb, to begin selling tickets. Cost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association (SGLA). Cash or credit card payments are accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745.
The sun will set at 8:40 p.m. and the “Strawberry” moon will rise at 9:28 p.m. on June 11th. The June full moon is called the “Strawberry” moon because strawberry picking season reaches its peak around this time. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes, most notably the Algonquin, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons.
The Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.
