Experience the beauty of a summer sunset and the rise of the glowing “Buck” moon from the top of the Cape St. George Lighthouse during the Sunset and Full Moon Climb on Thursday, July 10, 2025. This special event offers visitors a rare evening opportunity to enjoy sweeping views of St. George Island, the Gulf and Apalachicola Bay under the moonlit sky.
The climb will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with fifteen-minute time slots for groups of up to 12 participants. Time slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis—no advance reservations will be accepted. Tickets must be purchased in the Lighthouse Gift Shop, which will open at 8:00 p.m. on the evening of the event. After purchasing, guests should proceed to the lighthouse to sign up for their preferred time slot with the lighthouse keeper.
Admission is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Payment can be made by cash or credit card. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall, and children must be age 13 or older to access the outside catwalk.
The sunset will occur at 8:43 p.m., followed by the rise of the full “Buck” moon at 9:03 p.m. Named by Native American tribes such as the Algonquin, the “Buck” moon signifies the season when male deer begin growing their antlers.
The Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park in the center of St. George Island, where Island Drive ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in the lots on either side of the park.
